12 Sept 2022 End of season report
After such a sad week for the nation, Gunns were able to pay their respects to the remarkable life and service of the Queen by completing our final league match of the season yesterday wearing black armbands and observing a minute's silence prior to the game. It also gave us an opportunity to remember other special people close to the Gunns' family who have passed this year.
We learned before the match that we needed just half a point to secure the Premier League title. A very strong Hursley Park (last year's champions) were going to make us work extremely hard for every point though and with Gunns in the field first, made us wait until the 27th over to take the first wicket and therefore take the Premier league title! The bowlers toiled hard, with Megan backing up her last match with another fine spell of 1/31. Ria, Elsa and Esther the other wicket takers, restricting Hursley Park to 289/5. Knowing the league had been decided, Cath and Elsa opened up positively and Elsa finished a fine season for the club with an excellent half century. There were other contributions through the order, but Gunns finished well short of the final target.
And so Gunnersbury have done the double, winning both the National T20 Cup and the WCSL Premier League in our first full year back as Gunnersbury WCC! It's an incredible achievement and one that every single member of the club has contributed towards. Our second team finished 4th in the Middlesex Esme Irwin league, which is also an outstanding effort considering the challenges we have faced along the way.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has played their part and everyone who has helped out this year - parents, friends, umpires, scorers, coaches, siblings - we couldn't have done it without you.

A new home for Gunns for 2022
We are delighted to announce that, following our positive club meeting on 16th November 2021, and after a period of time to allow for further queries from our members, we have now signed an agreement for Gunnersbury WCC to form a partnership with Old Elizabethans CC as our home for the 2022 season! This also follows numerous exciting and positive discussions with Old Elizabethans CC and Middlesex Cricket.
We are really looking forward to beginning our partnership with OECC, who are extremely supportive and committed to helping develop both girls and women's cricket at the club.
Press Release:
GUNNS SECURE NEW VENUE FOR 2022
Gunnersbury Women’s Cricket Club is thrilled to announce its move back to the north of London for the 2022 season.
Whilst Gunnersbury will continue to operate under its own name and legislation, the women’s section is excited to be working in partnership with Barnet-based Old Elizabethans Cricket Club to help develop and grow women’s cricket in the North London-Hertfordshire corridor.
Gunnersbury Women’s Cricket Club is the only Middlesex-based women’s club that has teams operating in both the WCSL Premier League competition and the Middlesex League. This provides a unique balance of members ranging from a number of ex-internationals, current regional and county players to those who are new to the game.
Old Elizabethans CC Chair, Rob Jones, and Director of Cricket, Nav Parkar have been instrumental in supporting the recent discussions and negotiations, and are both excited about the opportunities this brings the club in the coming season. Nav says ‘Partnering with Gunnersbury WCC was a no-brainer. They offer our girls the opportunity to progress and play for one of the most prestigious women’s clubs in the country, as well as providing a wealth of knowledge and experience at the elite level which can only benefit the club as a whole. Everyone is very excited and committed to making this a successful partnership for years to come. I’d like to personally acknowledge Emma, Beth and Paul’s hard work in getting this over the line.’
Paul Barnfather, whose daughter Elsa is a current member of both Gunns and the Sunrisers Academy, and has played for a number of years at OE’s, endorses the relationship saying, ‘This is a fantastic fit for Old Elizabethans. We’ve certainly grown as a club and now we have the facilities and resources to be able to incorporate a women’s section, which we are very proud of.’
Former England international and World Cup Winner, Beth Morgan hopes that by securing a ground with multiple pitches and outstanding training facilities, new players will continue to be attracted to Gunns. ‘We’ve been incredibly successful throughout our 97-year history, producing many internationals and winning various national titles, so we see this as a really important step to continue our legacy as a leading women’s club in the area’ said Morgan, who still plays an active role in the club.
This is echoed by Emma Bernstein, Gunns Treasurer who says ‘We feel with the support and enthusiasm of Old Elizabethans CC, we are in a great position to support the development of women’s and girl’s cricket in the area and provide a variety of playing opportunities for those new to cricket and those with previous experience.’
Gunnersbury will train and play home matches at Mays Lane in Barnet, EN5 2AG, commencing in April 2022. The club is always keen to welcome new members, no matter what age or experience. Winter training will be running at alternate Sunday from 10-11.30am from Feb 6th at Wren Academy in North Finchley, please do come along (no equipment needed).

Further details...
Location:
Recognised as a priority for many of our members, the club is located in the Barnet/North London area (Mays Lane, Barnet EN5 2AG)
Pitches:
The club has 2 good quality pitches located on the same site, plus access to a third good quality pitch at a local school. They have guaranteed that our 1st XI will have priority on the main pitch on Sundays and that the 2nd XI will also have good access to this throughout the season. The Gunns and OE cricket committee will work together to establish a home fixture schedule that benefits all.
Training:
We will have access to a 4 lane net facility and the outfield one night a week allocated to Gunns, and with advanced notice on some training nights, a middle wicket with a cage.
Committee Structure:
OECC has agreed for Gunnersbury to continue running our club affairs and operations as an independent club in 2022. The Gunns committee will continue to operate as it currently does, with one representative also sitting on the OECC main committee regularly to keep an open line of communication. The Gunns safeguarding lead will also have a direct link to the Old Elizabethans Safeguarding Officer should any issues arise.
Gunnersbury will hold an AGM in January 2022 where the Committee members and roles will be finalised.
Links with Girls/Colts Section:
OECC has a thriving colts section and a volunteer dedicated to growing the girls' section specifically. We plan to work together to create a cohesive pathway and transition for girls from the colts into the Gunns women's teams.
Clubhouse and Facilities:
Gunns would get access to the clubhouse and other facilities including a small bar area with a welcoming atmosphere.
OE CC website:
Middlesex:
The Middlesex Cricket Board are supportive of Gunns developing a link with Old Elizabethans and see it as a positive move both for our club and for women's cricket in the county.
